Ole Miss’ Chris Beard gets ejected after going berserk on the court

Ole Miss Rebels head coach Chris Beard absolutely lost it in the second half of Tuesday’s game against the Tennessee Volunteers at Food City Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

With 6:15 remaining in regulation and the Rebels trailing by 17 points, Beard went ballistic on the referees over what he felt was a missed call that led to a turnover by his team.

The 52-year-old Beard initially went after a referee before turning his rage on another. He had to be restrained by a member of the Rebels’ staff, as he fully committed to one of the angriest crashouts of the 2025-26 college basketball season.

Beard was slapped with two technicals for his outburst, leading to his ejection.

Beard’s exit didn’t make it any better for Ole Miss, which went on to lose to the Vols, 84-66.

After the game, Beard talked about the factors behind his eruption.

“The free-throw differential in this game and the foul differential in this game, just frustrating from a coaching standpoint and a playing standpoint,” Beard said, via Tia Reid of the Mississippi Clarion Ledger.

“These are the best officials in college basketball. … But (in) tonight’s game, the free-throw differential, the fouls called differential, at some point as a coach you have to fight for your players.”

Tennessee went 23-for-34 from the foul line, while Beard’s Rebels were 13-for-21. Ole Miss was also called for 27 fouls to just the Volunteers’ 18.

The loss dropped Ole Miss to 11-11 overall and 3-6 in SEC play.
