Patrick Reed is on a real tear at the moment, winning two of his last three DP World Tour events and finishing second in the other.
He has climbed to 17th in the world rankings after a brilliant start to the 2026 season.
It surprised plenty when Reed parted ways with LIV Golf a couple of weeks ago.
Access to the PGA Tour was subsequently granted to the 35-year-old American, but he will need to wait until August for it.
LIV might be second-guessing their decision to let Reed go, especially now that he is looking so strong.
After taking home another trophy at the Qatar Masters, there is no doubt he is one of the most in-form players out there right now, along with Chris Gotterup.
It is a genuine pity that his return to the PGA Tour might not happen until August 26th, at the earliest. But is that a definite timeline?
Reed has never been shy about where he sees himself in the golf hierarchy.
Who could forget his comment after winning the WGC-Cadillac Championship back in 2014, when at just 23 years old, he said he was one of the top five players in the world?
“I believe in myself, especially with how hard I’ve worked. I’m one of the top five players in the world,” Reed said at that time.
“I feel like I’ve proven myself.”
He took plenty of heat for those comments, but it is hard to argue against him now being a top 10 player given his form and consistency.
The controversy surrounding him over the years has certainly put some fans off, but whether you are a fan or not, there is no question that he brings attention wherever he goes.
And those who enjoy watching Reed will not have to wait long – he will be back on PGA Tour screens before his suspension is even lifted…
While his PGA Tour ban does not lift until August 26th, Reed retains full playing rights on the DP World Tour.
And because of his standing there, he is set to appear in a PGA Tour event as early as July.
The Genesis Scottish Open, held at the Renaissance Club from July 9th to 12th, is a joint event between the two tours, allowing Reed to participate despite his ban still being in effect.
Links golf tends to suit Reed’s style. He can shape shots both ways and keep the ball low in windy conditions – traits that have served him well on courses like this before.
A win there would not just be another chapter in Reed’s career – it would be exactly what we have come to expect from him over the years.
He has spent much of his time in professional golf defying expectations. And if recent form is anything to go by, another victory might not be far away.
