The Chicago White Sox are getting ready for the regular season, as it is only a few weeks away. However, the injury bug has seemingly bitten the team towards the tail end of Spring Training. The team could be missing another player off its 26-man roster to begin the season, so let’s take a deeper dive into the news surrounding the situation.
The White Sox are going to be monitoring the situation of outfielder Brooks Baldwin. Baldwin was dealing with right elbow soreness after throwing to bases and was shut down for a few days. The team did imaging on the elbow, and it revealed inflammation. As a result, it will likely shut him down for the remainder of Spring Training.
Baldwin has been competing with Luisangel Acuna and Everson Pereira for the starting center field position throughout Spring Training. If he were to land on the Injured List to begin the season, expect to see Pereira and Jarred Kelenic make the 26-man roster.
Baldwin has played 136 games over his two years in the bigs. He is posting a .232/.279/.382 slashline with 13 homers, 46 RBI, 41 runs scored, and nine steals without being caught. This injury can test the depth that the White Sox have for the outfield before games even begin. With the injury landing catcher Kyle Teel on Injured Reserve, Chicago is already going to need to have other players step up.
It will be interesting to see how severe the inflammation is in Baldwin’s elbow. It could be the difference between being ready for Opening Day or having to miss a few games/weeks at the beginning of the season.
