Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday is currently recovering from a broken hamate bone in his hand. On Monday, the former top prospect received an encouraging injury update. According to Jake Rill of MLB.com, Holliday had stitches removed from his right hand.

"Jackson Holliday had stitches removed from right hand, no longer wearing black wrap. He said he can start working out, fielding ground balls, swinging with one hand. He said the hope continues to be that he’ll be a full participant sometime before Orioles break camp next month," Rill's full report on X (formerly Twitter) stated.

Rill also shared a quote from Holliday in response to the injury update.

"Should be somewhat close to being ready, just more of being the player that I want to be … Be the best 2nd baseman that I can be is kind of the outlook I have," Holliday said. "I could probably rush it and get back for Opening Day, but just making sure that I’m ready to roll."

There is no reason to rush his return. MLB features a lengthy 162-game season and the Orioles want to compete for a playoff spot. They'd rather have Holliday miss a few games early in the season if necessary if it means he can be healthy for the stretch run. With that being said, they would obviously love to have him return sooner rather than later if possible.

Holliday, 22, was previously a top prospect as mentioned. He is still looking to put it all together at the MLB level. After struggling across 60 games in 2024, Holliday took a step forward in 2025.

The infielder slashed .242/.314/.375 while recording 17 home runs and 17 stolen bases. It was not a breakout season by any means, and he will need to develop more consistency. A near 20-20 season is promising for a young player, however.

The Orioles still believe in Holliday. He is a crucial part of the team's young core of stars. Baltimore is looking to build a legitimate championship contender, and the O's are hopeful that Holliday will play a significant role in their success.

For now, the Orioles will closely monitor Jackson Holliday's injury status as he works toward his return.
