While Dana White has been vocal about “clearing the air,” the heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall isn’t rushing to do so.
The 32-year-old was unfazed by White’s recent comments about trying to clear the air. Aspinall made it clear that while he isn’t actively avoiding a conversation with the UFC boss, his primary focus has moved beyond mending fences and toward maximizing his financial and professional leverage.
The rift caused by White’s dismissive comments following the UFC 321 “no-contest” seems to have permanently altered Aspinall’s perspective on his career. This shift in focus was underscored by Aspinall’s decision to become the first client of Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Talent Agency.
By bringing in the UFC’s primary boxing rival to handle his commercial and advisory deals, Aspinall is positioning himself for a new level of financial independence. After undergoing multiple surgeries to repair vision damage from the Ciryl Gane fight, Aspinall has become increasingly vocal about the physical toll of the sport and the necessity for top-tier fighters to secure their financial futures while at their peak. Despite the five-month gap in direct communication with White, Aspinall seems comfortable.
“There might be [a call], but I don’t know. My Dad’s my manager, been there since the beginning…I don’t really have a relationship with Dana. I like [UFC CBO] Hunter Campbell, he’s a very humble, decent human being. Something that I’ve learned from this whole injury thing and the backlash I’ve got, stuff like that, you’ve got to make as much money and be as ruthless as possible. Nobody in there is your friend, and you have to capitalize on the time you have in the sport,” Aspinall said
