The Irish star predicts Max Holloway will defeat Charles Oliveira again but questions the “BMF” label attached to the fight.
Conor McGregor has weighed in on the main event of UFC 326, backing Max Holloway to defeat Charles Oliveira in their highly anticipated rematch.
The fight will headline the card in Las Vegas on Saturday, with Holloway defending the symbolic BMF title against the Brazilian former lightweight champion.
While many fighters have split opinions on the matchup, McGregor believes Holloway will come out on top — much like he did when the pair first met more than a decade ago.
Holloway and Oliveira first fought in 2015, when the bout ended after Oliveira suffered a neck injury early in the contest.
Despite the unusual stoppage after just 99 seconds, McGregor believes the Hawaiian had already begun to take control of the fight.
“It is a great matchup… I am very much looking forward to it,” McGregor wrote when predicting the outcome.
“It is always exciting for me to see fighters rematch. It takes great courage and honour to do so and I always respect it.”
The former two-division champion added that he expects a competitive contest but ultimately sees Holloway breaking down Oliveira once again.
“Their last time out it seemed Holloway broke Charles early in the fight and it was then stopped,” he said.
“Max is light on his feet and can pop Charles and begin to break him again. It is a different Charles however, so we will see.”
McGregor was not alone in predicting a Holloway victory, joining fighters such as Jon Jones and Islam Makhachev in backing the BMF champion.
While McGregor offered his prediction, he also criticised the BMF label attached to the fight.
According to the Irishman, the fact that both fighters must cut weight to compete undermines the concept of a “Baddest M———-r” contest.
“I don’t feel the BMF title is accurate here,” McGregor said.
“With both men suffering in the sauna to make the limit. There is zero BMF about this.”
As expected, McGregor also hinted that he could pursue the belt himself if he returns to competition.
The former UFC champion suggested he believes he could defeat both Holloway and Oliveira inside the Octagon — potentially setting the stage for another headline-grabbing comeback in the future.
