Mike Perry says Conor McGregor is not happy after his latest fight announcement.
‘Platinum’ is scheduled to take on Nate Diaz at the Most Valuable Promotions MMA event on May 16.
The BKFC King of Violence says he’s lined up the opponent Conor McGregor had in mind for his highly anticipated UFC comeback. Perry believes it’s another reason why he and Diaz could bring huge attention to their fight.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, he said:
“We’re both big draws. We don’t need championships or organisations behind us. We’re two of the top fighters in the world, and a lot of fans will tune in for this one.”
During a chat with Ariel Helwani, Perry couldn’t resist making a few jokes at McGregor’s expense.
Even so, the 34-year-old took time to praise the BKFC co-owner and UFC icon.
“Conor’s punching the air right now that it’s me and Nate instead of his trilogy,” Perry said.
“‘Ah, that damn ‘Platinum’ Perry, King of Violence, working off my shine in bare knuckle.’ He ain’t never fought nobody in bare knuckle.
Perry continued: “The world is excited to see him back in the ring. I know you’re working on it. I know you’re trying. I know the UFC is giving you a hard time. We all look forward to seeing you back in the ring.
The long-awaited trilogy between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz appears to be off the table for good.
Diaz had reportedly been discussing a third fight with the UFC but chose instead to face Mike Perry at Jake Paul’s debut MMA event.
Veteran MMA journalist Luke Thomas believes this decision means Diaz won’t be returning to the UFC anytime soon, if ever.
He tweeted: “Not just this, but the way I heard it, Diaz taking this fight closes the door on a UFC return completely. So, whatever Diaz is making or planning for future fights, he’s doing so knowing there’s no UFC homecoming possible now.”
