Joel Embiid looked great in the Philadelphia 76ers’ last game. The former NBA MVP went off for 33 points on 9-of-19 from the field and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe. Embiid also added nine rebounds, three assists, a block and four triples. He led the Sixers to a 109-103 road win against the Phoenix Suns.

Embiid, however, popped up on the injury report ahead of Monday’s road matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Sixers added the seven-time All-Star to the injury report ahead of the game. He was initially listed as questionable to play with a right knee issue.

The good news is that Embiid’s injury does not seem to be serious. His official designation is right knee injury management. The Sixers have taken a cautious approach to this knee all season, which means there should be no significant cause for concern.

The bad news, however, is that Embiid won’t play. The Sixers officially ruled out the 7-foot center shortly before tip-off.

Embiid’s absence seems precautionary. There appears to be no occurrence of the knee injury, and it’s possible that the Sixers are just giving their cornerstone big man the night off.

Taking Embiid’s spot in the starting lineup is Andre Drummond. With Dominick Barlow also out with an illness, more frontcourt minutes will be available for Trendon Watford and Adem Bona.

Embiid’s next chance to play will be on Wednesday at home against the New York Knicks.

The 76ers enter Monday’s matchup with a 30-22 record. As of writing, they are sixth in the Eastern Confernce.
