Austin Reaves sends clear message after Lakers’ third straight loss

The Los Angeles Lakers dropped their third straight game Thursday night, falling 113-110 to the Phoenix Suns in a loss that stung more than usual. The Suns were down Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks, two key rotation pieces, but it did not matter.

Austin Reaves and the Lakers could not close it out. Reaves has been back in the starting lineup for three games now after dealing with a calf injury. His minutes restriction got lifted, and he is settling back into his role.

He put up 14 points against Phoenix, grabbed three rebounds, two assists and two steals. The numbers were fine. The result was not.

When reporters asked Reaves about the team's frustration level after another collapse, he did not dance around it, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

"Very high," Reaves said.

A troubling pattern has emerged for Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers had a double-digit lead in the second half and let it slip away. Sound familiar? It should. The same thing happened Tuesday against the Orlando Magic when things fell apart down the stretch.

This time, the Lakers trailed by three in the final seconds with a chance to force overtime. Reaves fought through multiple screens, found space in the corner and got a clean look from deep after Marcus Smart fed him the ball. The shot missed.

That is where the Lakers are right now. Small mistakes pile up when games get tight, and close losses are becoming a pattern.

Los Angeles is 34-24 and sliding closer to the Western Conference play-in line.
