Joel Embiid became an MVP with the Philadelphia 76ers, but injuries always stopped him from finally winning the Larry O'Brien trophy. He has played more than half of an NBA regular season in the past two seasons, and he's on track to miss several contests this campaign.
His availability issues are especially frustrating for Sixers fans because they know how good The Process is whenever he's on the floor. He's second on the team in scoring (26.6 points per game), while also being the team's second-best defensive enforcer (1.1 blocks per game).
However, his injuries have taken a toll on his athleticism. His 7.5 rebounds per game are his lowest tally in his NBA career. His lower free-throw attempt averages (8.6 per game) also points to a continued aversion to contact down the paint.
As the All-Star weekend approaches, Sixers fans received an update that may not surprise them anymore.
ESPN's Tim Bontemps first broke the news that Embiid will be sitting out of the Sixers' upcoming game against the New York Knicks because of his sore right knee.
He then followed up the report with an update on the Sixers' next steps. "Embiid will be re-evaluated after the break," Bontemps reported.

The Sixers didn't take any chances with Embiid, which is a good thing to do. They need the 2024 Olympic gold medalist available to play if they want to secure an automatic playoff berth.
Tyrese Maxey will find it hard to secure their spot with only VJ Edgecombe helping him.
