It appears as if LA Clippers star Kawhi Leonard is a big tennis fan as the 14-year veteran was spotted this week taking in matches for the French Open. The popular tennis tournament began last month and is scheduled to conclude this coming weekend.
Kawhi Leonard was on hand for the match between Jakub Menšík of The Czech Republic and Alexander Zverev of Germany in the semifinals of the French Open. Zverev would emerge victorious in the match, inching him closer to winning the overall tournament.
As far as Leonard is concerned, this is shaping up to be a potentially crucial offseason. Armed with the No. 5 overall pick in what’s been called one of the best NBA Drafts in recent history, the team needs to decide whether or not they want to hit the reset button or try and win now for as long as Leonard is on the roster.
At this past season’s trade deadline, the Clippers fielded calls from teams interested in a Leonard trade, only to be rebuffed. Rival teams sought to gauge the Clippers’ interest in rebuilding after the decisions to trade both James Harden and Ivica Zubac.
If the team does want to focus on developing a young core that would consist of Darius Garland, Bennedict Mathurin and the No. 5 pick, Leonard could be a trade candidate this offseason.
Despite a history with injuries since joining the Clippers, Leonard turned in his most healthy season since he was first acquired. He appeared in 65 games, averaging a career-high 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals. He shot 50.5 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from the 3-point line and 89.2 percent from the free-throw line.
