Luka Doncic makes NBA history during dominant seven-game Lakers stretch

The Los Angeles Lakers needed a win with playoff positioning on the line Wednesday night, and Luka Doncic made sure they got it. His 40-point double-double led the way in a 124-116 road victory over the Houston Rockets, and more importantly, it locked up the season series tiebreaker.

Doncic controlled the game from start to finish. The Lakers grabbed their second straight win in Houston and now sit 2.5 games ahead of the Rockets after winning seven in a row.

The Western Conference is still tightly packed, though. Only four games separate the third seed from the seventh, so there is not much room to slip.

L.A.'s recent surge has come from playing better defense. They've won 10 of their last 11 games and are starting to look like a real threat heading into the playoffs. But keeping this going will depend on Doncic staying locked in alongside LeBron James and Austin Reaves.

Luka Doncic’s dominance hits new level

What Doncic did over the past seven games is something the league has never seen before.

According to OptaStats, Luka Doncic has recorded a seven-game span that is unprecedented in NBA history. During this stretch, the Los Angeles Lakers player accumulated at least 250 points, 50 rebounds, and 50 assists along with a minimum of 25 made three-point field goals.

Additionally, the team maintained an undefeated record across those seven games. No other player has previously achieved this combination of statistical benchmarks and team results within the same timeframe.

Doncic came into the night averaging 33.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 8.5 assists across 57 games. He is shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from three while leading the NBA in scoring.

As the Lakers keeps pushing, his scoring edge has started to feel familiar, almost like shades of Kobe Bryant in those takeover moments.
