Bears LBs coach: Khalil Mack 'training like I have never seen anybody train before'

Khalil Mack had a bit of a down year last season by his extremely high standards but according to Bears outside linebackers coach Ted Monachino, the linebacker is determined to prove that he is still one of the most ferocious defenders in the NFL.

"Motivation is not an issue with Khalil; never has been," Monachino told the Chicago Sun-Times. "But what I'll tell you is that he has approached this offseason with something to prove — and that's something that I think we all can be encouraged by."

In his second year in Chicago, Mack logged his lowest number of sacks (8.5) and quarterback hits (14) since his rookie year, while the Bears defense as a whole only sacked the quarterback 32 times last season. According to Monachino, Mack is working tirelessly to return to form.

"I think that that's something that's exciting when a player of his caliber approaches his work the way he has approached it," Monachino said. "He's training like I have never seen anybody train before."

Mack has been one of the elite defenders since being drafted by Oakland in 2014. In six seasons, he has been named a First-Team All-Pro three times and has made the Pro Bowl five times. Despite his success, Mack still appears to be set on improving his game and becoming the best version of himself.

"I just think that this is a special guy that has something to prove and has approached the last several months with a chip on his shoulder," Monachino said. "And I think that's good for everybody."
