The Denver Broncos improved to 12-2 and ensured they'd end the weekend in possession of the AFC's No. 1 playoff seed by earning a come-from-behind 34-26 win over the Green Bay Packers (9-4-1) on Sunday.
For a piece published on Monday, second-year Broncos quarterback Bo Nix spoke with Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated and credited the home crowd for inspiring the hosts to erase what had become a 23-14 deficit early in the third quarter.
“The crowd was electric,” Nix said. "It was a reason why the second half played out the way it did. They stayed in the game with us, and we were able to give them enough plays to spark that atmosphere. It was hostile tonight; it was tough for a team to come in. It felt like a playoff environment — loud. It wasn’t a fun place [for another team] to play. I think we’re building something. And we’re not just building something. I think we’re getting back to what is normal around here."
The Broncos were betting underdogs heading into Sunday's game that seemed to change when Denver cornerback Patrick Surtain II intercepted a Jordan Love pass with under 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter. From there, Denver outscored Green Bay to the tune of 20-3.
As for Nix, he completed 23 of 34 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns against the Packers. Denver still holds a lead over the 10-4
Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West standings. The 11-3 New England Patriots trail only the Broncos in the overall conference standings.
"We didn’t flinch," Nix added about the Broncos' 11th straight victory. "Overall, we just didn’t pay attention to the score. We knew we had a lot of game left."
As of Monday morning, the ESPN Football Power Index gave the Broncos a 26.8% chance to make a run to Super Bowl LX. To compare, the 11-3 Los Angeles Rams topped the list at 32.7%.
Denver next hosts the 10-4 Jacksonville Jaguars on Dec. 21. That same day, the Chargers will play at the 6-7-1 Dallas Cowboys. That evening, the Patriots will play at the 7-7 Baltimore Ravens.
