The Los Angeles Chargers kick-start free agency with the splash signing of center Tyler Biadasz, as the two sides agreed to a 3-year, $30M contract, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

This move comes after the retirement of C Bradley Bozeman, who had been the Chargers’ starter for the past two seasons.

Tyler Biadasz (6’4 316 lb)

The six-year veteran, who was originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 4th-round (146th) back in 2020. He’s spent the past two seasons with the Washington Commanders, after signing a 3-year $29.25M deal, following head coach Dan Quinn.

The Pro Bowl center now gets a bump in salary with the Chargers, after being cut by the Commanders. As a cap casualty, he won’t affect the compensatory pick formula.

Was This A Good Signing For The Los Angeles Chargers?

With a weaker center class in the draft this cycle, general manager Joe Hortiz and the front office decided to strike early and secure their center of the future.

Many expected the Chargers to be in the Tyler Linderbaum sweepstakes, especially with the most effective cap space in the NFL at $92M per Over the Cap. In typical Hortiz fashion, however, he goes for a quality player at a cost-effective price range.

New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel definitely had a say in this signing, as Biadasz’s familiarity with wide zone run schemes in Washington could pair with what McDaniel plans to shape this new-look Chargers offense.

Overall, it’s a phenomenal signing by the front office, which has proven to find value in veteran players through free agency. The move also gives them more flexibility in the draft, not having to pigeonhole themselves into positions on the interior offensive line.
