Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb has this regret about contract standoff involving Packers' Micah Parsons

Last summer, a months-long contract standoff involving Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones and star pass-rusher Micah Parsons came to an end when Jones traded Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in late August.

During a Wednesday appearance on the "Pro Football Talk Live" program, Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb discussed all that occurred leading up to Parsons' departure from Dallas ahead of Week 1 of the 2025 season.

CeeDee Lamb has this wish about Micah Parsons, Jerry Jones contract saga

"As his teammate and as his brother, I wish I would have known what the situation would have been and we wouldn’t have dragged it out," Lamb said about the Parsons story, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

In the end, the Cowboys acquired two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark for Parsons' services shortly after Dallas' preseason wrapped up. Without having Parsons in the lineup, the Cowboys fell to 3-5-1 before their Week 10 bye.

Dallas landed defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and linebacker Logan Wilson ahead of the trade deadline, and those moves helped bolster what had been a struggling defense. Nevertheless, the Cowboys missed the playoffs and finished the campaign with a record of 7-9-1.

Despite his well-known desire for a contract extension, Parsons reported on time to attend Dallas' mandatory minicamp in June 2025. Parsons was also visible at training camp but didn't practice as he dealt with a lingering back injury. On Wednesday, Lamb indicated he was surprised that the saga didn't end with Parsons receiving his desired extension from the Cowboys.

CeeDee Lamb was ready for Micah Parsons, Jerry Jones to come to an agreement "any day now"

"Let’s just prepare to have him, as we go through our preparation and seeing him out there in his pads, we’re like, 'Any day now.' And that day never came for us," Lamb added about the Cowboys eventually trading Parsons.

Knowing how things played out, it's not a stretch to say that the 2025 Cowboys would have been better off had Jones completed the Parsons trade ahead of last year's draft. Jones then could have attempted to improve the Dallas defense during the spring and summer instead of around the midway point of the season.
