Eagles make NFC East history with win over Commanders

Despite an up-and-down season, the Philadelphia Eagles are the class of the NFC East once again. The Eagles locked up their second consecutive division title on Saturday after defeating the Washington Commanders by the score of 29-18.

While another division title is far from the end goal for the defending Super Bowl champions, Philadelphia's 2025 NFC East crown is historic in its own right. The Eagles became the first team to win back-to-back NFC East titles in 21 years.

Jalen Hurts only threw for 185 yards, but that was all the Eagles needed to end the longest streak of a division having different winners in NFL history.

Eagles bookend the NFC East's run of different champions

Ironically enough, the last time the NFC East experienced a repeat champion was when Andy Reid's Eagles won division championships from 2001 to 2004.

After three straight losses, the Eagles are hitting their stride as they hope to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

As for more of what happened against Washington, Hurts put together another efficient performance, connecting on 22-of-30 passes for a 70.3% completion percentage. He completed 80% the prior week in a 31-0 domination of the lowly Las Vegas Raiders.

Hurts also threw two touchdown passes, giving him 3,114 yards and 24 touchdown passes on the year.

A significant portion of Hurts' passes went to A.J. Brown, as he made nine receptions for 95 yards.

Eagles flexed their muscles by showing balance

Beyond the passing game, Hurts used his legs to run for 40 yards and Saquon Barkley did what he does best: carried the load to help secure a win.

Barkley ran for 132 yards and a score on 21 attempts. He averaged 6.3 yards per carry in the game and now has 1,072 yards, a far cry from the 2,005 he racked up last season, but still a milestone as his fifth season with over 1,000 in his career.

At 10-5, the Eagles' balanced attack will turn its attention to finishing the season strong and trying to move up their seed placement for the postseason. Next up for Philadelphia is a trip to Buffalo before wrapping the regular season with another matchup against the Commanders.
