New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo offered a positive update on his recovery from a severe ankle injury. The youngster continues to work his way back after surgery ended his promising rookie season.

Skattebo recently shared details about his progress during an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show." The running back explained that his recovery has reached an important stage.

Skattebo said he recently began running again and currently moves at around 75 percent capacity. He described his pace with a humorous comparison.

"I can get away from like a baby hippo, maybe," Skattebo said. "That's about it. But, yeah, a little bit over a jog. Just kind of striding out, not exploding yet and getting into that part of the game, but the jog and the striding."

The injury occurred during a Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles in October 2025. Skattebo suffered a serious lower-leg injury that included an open ankle dislocation, a fractured fibula, and a ruptured deltoid ligament. Doctors performed surgery soon after the incident, and the initial recovery timeline ranged from four to six months.

Despite the severity of the injury, Skattebo believes he remains on track to return soon. He expects to reach full strength within the next month. That timeline would allow him to participate in offseason team activities later this spring.

"I'll be ready to go by training camp," Skattebo said. "Absolutely. I've probably got a little bit over a month left until I'm fully back to 100 percent."

Before the injury, Skattebo delivered a solid rookie season with the Giants. He recorded 410 rushing yards on 101 carries and scored five rushing touchdowns. The Arizona State product also added 24 receptions for 207 yards and two receiving scores.

New York hopes his return strengthens the offense entering the 2026 season. The Giants finished the 2025 campaign with a 4-13 record and struggled with consistency.

If Skattebo regains full health, he could become a key piece in the team’s physical rushing attack next season.
