A new report claimed that Las Vegas Raiders star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby recently informed team minority owner Tom Brady that "he will never play for the Raiders again" amid Crosby's alleged unhappiness with the overall state of the organization.
During a Monday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter offered his latest update on the possible Crosby-Raiders standoff.
"I think there's a feeling around the league that he would like to be traded," Schefter said about Crosby. "The Raiders prefer not to trade him. Now it depends how dug in and how headstrong Maxx is here in this particular situation. They just signed him to a contract extension a year ago. (Raiders principal owner) Mark Davis always has loved Maxx Crosby."
Specifically, Crosby and the Raiders agreed to a three-year, $106.5M contract extension last offseason. However, the relationship between the two sides seemingly changed after Crosby was shut down against his wishes before the end of the 2025 campaign due to a knee injury.
During Monday's show segment, Schefter pointed out that the Raiders have a new head coach in former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Additionally, Las Vegas is widely expected to make Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza the first overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.
"It could be that Maxx has grown so disenchanted with being there that he absolutely wants to move on," Schefter continued. "But I think that there may be a window to sit him down and say, 'Look, you can be a big part of this turnaround here.'"
Schefter also repeated a previous report and said that it would take a package similar to what the Dallas Cowboys got for Micah Parsons' services for the Raiders "to even consider" trading Crosby this offseason. In late August, Dallas traded Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark.
"There's still some steps that have to unfold here before we know exactly how this will play out," Schefter concluded.
It sounds like Davis and Brady may be hoping that Kubiak can win Crosby over during conversations that could take place later in February.
