The New York Jets have been the epitome of disappointment in the NFL for as long as anyone can remember.
They had a brief period of prosperity in the late 2000s with Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre and Mark Sanchez, who took the team to back-to-back AFC Championship Games.
They haven’t been back to the playoffs since then, but new head coach Aaron Glenn was expected to transform the culture and identity of the team.
Things seemed like they were ready to blow up in New York’s face after an 0-7 start where quarterback Justin Fields consistently struggled to even reach 100 yards passing.
He did manage to win back-to-back games, but he threw for just 54 yards in the second one.
Glenn said things were already trending towards Fields being benched, but the decision became easier after the poor performances and an injury.
Tyrod Taylor was named the new starting quarterback, but he got knocked out of New York’s last game vs. the Miami Dolphins with a groin injury.
Rookie quarterback Brady Cook stepped in and will be the starter this week, but the Jets know they need some insurance with two of their signal callers hurt.
This prompted them to elevate Adrian Martinez from the practice squad, who will likely serve as the backup to Cook.
Jets’ roster moves today:

Placed CB Azareye’h Thomas on injured reserve.
Activated LB Cam Jones.
Elevated QB Adrian Martinez and DB Tre Brown from the practice squad.
Martinez has never thrown a pass in an NFL game, but he is clearly talented as he has already been on the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad this year.
He is a dynamic quarterback, who may even be better at running the ball than he is at passing.
He fits right in with Taylor and Fields, who are also dynamic athletes at the position, so the offense probably wouldn’t miss a beat if Martinez had to be inserted.
The Jets haven’t had much luck with quarterback injuries this year, but they have accumulated an abundance of talent there.
