Jets HC Aaron Glenn issues warning to team after latest loss

The New York Jets were blown out for the second consecutive week on Sunday, and head coach Aaron Glenn issued a warning to his team after the game.

The Jets fell to 3-11 on the season with a 48-20 thumping at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars that never felt particularly close. While the Jaguars have been one of the most surprising teams in the AFC this season and are likely headed to the playoffs, the loss came a week after the Jets were dominated 34-10 by the Miami Dolphins at home.

With no quarterback of the future on the roster and multiple star players having been traded at this season's deadline, many are wondering what changes could come next for the Jets.

Aaron Glenn sends a strong message to the Jets

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was asked after Sunday's loss if there is anything specific he will try to focus on over the final three games of the season. He responded by essentially issuing a warning to his players and coaching staff.

"Again, it’s not just about the Xs and Os, it’s about the character of this team, like which guy is going to lay it on the line and continue to play,” Glenn said, via Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “Which coach is going to lay it on the line and continue to make sure we put our players in the right position, make sure -- 'How am I going to lay it on the line and make sure I can get us all moving in the right direction?' Those are the things I talk to the players about, and they know that.

"This is a tough one. This is a tough one. But I know this: You can’t just sit back and just be like, okay -- no, we’ve got three games. We’ve got three games to see exactly how we’re going to finish the season out, and that’s all I’m worried about right now.”

Glenn's job is likely safe, as he is in only his first season as head coach in New York. That does not mean ownership will be happy with him after how things have gone.

The Jets need to fix their defense

It is hardly a surprise after they traded away two of their best players in cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, but the Jets defense has been a major weakness this season. They have allowed 28.4 points per game, which ranks 30th in the NFL. Sunday's performance was their worst of the year.

The Jaguars scored 31 points in the first half on Sunday, including touchdowns on their first three possessions. Somehow, the Jets still have not recorded a single interception this season through 14 games. Their -17 turnover differential is the worst in the NFL.

Glenn made a name for himself as a successful defensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions. If the Jets want to play to his strengths, they need to give him some talented players to work with. Perhaps they will land a few with all of the additional draft capital they acquired in their trade deadline fire sale.
