Key Points:

  • Nick Sirianni broke the silence on Jalen Hurts
  • Hurts' turnovers have been scrutinized
  • The Eagles play Las Vegas this weekend

The Philadelphia Eagles are hoping for improved play over the last four games of their 2025-26 season after a road loss to the Los Angeles Chargers dropped coach Nick Sirianni's team to 8-5 this season.

Next up is a Dec. 14 game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Lincoln Financial Field with Eagles QB Jalen Hurts expected to be the focus of the pre-game narrative.

Hurts turned the ball over five times during Philadelphia's 22-19 Monday Night Football loss, which has drawn scorn from fans and media.

On Wednesday, coach Nick Sirianni pumped the brakes on Hurts criticisms as he shared his two cents on the matter.

Sirianni Addresses Hurts Concerns

Sirianni addressed concerns over Hurts' turnovers by focusing on the positive things he did during Monday's loss.

"I never want the turnovers, but he did some really good things," Sirianni said according to reporter Zach Berman.

"I'm always going to look at the win-loss, the turnovers, and look at that and say that, but there were a lot of good things on offense," he continued.

Hurts also got support from former Eagles QB Donovan McNabb, who is expecting the former Alabama and Oklahoma star to flip the switch come playoff time and become the caretaker of the football his team needs.

Sirianni Spotlights Positives on Offense

Siriannni highlighted the Eagles' positives on offense against a fired up Chargers team at SoFi Stadium and their star defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, who's been one of the best in the business since joining Jim Harbaugh from Michigan.

"We were able to move the football against a really good defense," Sirianni said.

"...We didn't finish drives for multiple different reasons, and we turned the ball over for multiple different reasons, but there was a lot to be encouraged by that, (which we talked) about today in our meetings.

"But I thought he did a good job taking what they gave him. And again, for different reasons, there were some plays that didn't work out, and there were some plays that were explosive."

Evidence Shows Hurts Deserves Benefit of the Doubt

Hurts has been intercepted in just three of his 13 starts this season and now has 19 touchdown passes against six interceptions on the season for Sirianni's Eagles.

Minter and the Chargers have become experts at confusing opposing quarterbacks and Hurts fell victim to his traps on Monday.

The Eagles aren't like to face a defense with the same type of skills in the NFC Playoffs should they make it as expected, and Hurts has the track record showing he knows how to take care of the ball in the biggest games of the season.

Sirianni's support for his QB may seem oddly timed, but it makes perfect sense judging by Hurts' track record since joining the Eagles back in 2020.
