Sean Mannion may be a familiar name for die-hard football fans. He was the quarterback at Oregon State from 2010 to 2014, and he bounced around the NFL, largely as a backup and practice squad player.
Mannion was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams. He played in 14 games over his career, starting three of them.
He never made much of a splash as an NFL quarterback, but Mannion's true calling may be as a coach.
He joined the staff of the Green Bay Packers in 2023 as an offensive assistant working with quarterbacks and the passing game. This past season, he was promoted to quarterbacks coach, working alongside Jordan Love and Malik Willis.
Now, it's being reported that he's up for the open offensive coordinator position with the Philadelphia Eagles.

You can make the case that Mannion was a big part of Jordan Love having the season he did. Love threw for 3,381 yards and 23 touchdowns with six interceptions; he tossed four touchdowns with no interceptions in Green Bay's playoff loss to the Chicago Bears.
You can make an even stronger case that Mannion has played a role in the development of Green Bay's backup quarterback, Willis.
Willis appeared in four games this season for the Packers, and he threw for 422 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions while rushing for 123 yards and two scores.
The Eagles are the first team to have interviewed Mannion, but one imagines the Packers may want to keep him around and promote him if current offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich is promoted to a play-calling position elsewhere, which is definitely possible.
Either way, Mannion's star is rising.
