To say that this has been a disappointing season for the Kansas City Chiefs would be a massive understatement.
Six of their seven losses have been by one possession, a scenario in which they used to thrive. Also, they've been on the wrong end of some unfortunate bounces and tipped passes, and they may have finally run out of luck after all these years.
That's why, with four games left in the regular season, they might not make it past Week 15.
As pointed out by ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Chiefs could be eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday.
"Here is the way the Chiefs can be eliminated from postseason contention today: Chiefs lose to the Chargers. Buffalo beats or ties the Patriots. Jaguars beat or tie the Jets. Texans beat the Cardinals," Schefter wrote on X. "If those scenarios play out, the Chiefs are out."
All of those scenarios sound quite possible. The Los Angeles Chargers haven't swept the Chiefs since 2013, but their defense will keep Patrick Mahomes on his toes.
Mahomes is coming off the worst game of his career, and he will continue to play behind a banged-up offensive line.
Of course, it has never paid off to go against Andy Reid and his future Hall of Fame quarterback.
But, given the way this team has fared this season, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see Mahomes missing the playoffs for the first time in his career.
