Patrick Mahomes had worst game of his career at worst possible time

The Kansas City Chiefs had no margin for error on Sunday night.

They had the challenge to get past the Houston Texans' bruising defense without two of their starting offensive linemen and in a game they just couldn't afford to lose.

DeMeco Ryans' team showed up ready to play, and they kept Patrick Mahomes on his toes. More than that, they made the former MVP look mortal, arguably for the first time in his career.

Patrick Mahomes' struggles doom Chiefs vs. Texans

As pointed out by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Mahomes had a historically bad performance in the 20-10 loss.

"Patrick Mahomes finished 14/33 for 160 yards. It’s a career-low completion percentage for a single game (42.4%), and the Texans intercepted him three times," Russini wrote on X.

Of course, that's not to say that Mahomes was the only person to blame for the setback. Coach Andy Reid made some questionable decisions, receivers dropped balls and there was only so much any quarterback could've done behind that banged-up offensive line.

Still, at the end of the day, all that matters is that the Chiefs have now fallen to 6-7 and will most likely miss the playoffs.

With Travis Kelce contemplating retirement and assistant coaches Steve Spagnuolo and Matt Nagy drawing interest for head coaching positions, there are more questions than answers in the organization right now.

And while it's never been wise to count this team out, for the first time, it truly feels like the dynasty has come to an end.
