The Green Bay Packers offensive line is in flux as we enter the 2026 offseason. The unit will look very different next season than it did in 2025 with as many as three starters potentially departing between now and the start of training camp. GM Brian Gutekunst has some important decisions to make about the offensive tackle position based on the contract situations and injury status of key players. These decisions will have an impact on how the Packers handle the 2026 NFL Draft. The Packers face some big questions at offensive tackle this offseason and how they solve them will be important for the long-term health of the team.
Rasheed Walker started at left tackle for the past three years. However, the former Penn State star is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next month. Unfortunately, Walker suffered through a disappointing season in 2025. His run blocking grade was very low, according to Pro Football Focus. Meanwhile, his pass blocking wasn’t as strong as it was in the previous two seasons.
Because left tackle is a premium position and because he put together two solid seasons as a starter there, Walker will still command serious money on the free agent market. According to spotrac.com, his value this offseason will be approximately $20.3 million a year with an expected contract length of four years. That will be more than the Packers are willing to pay him, so Walker is unlikely to return to Green Bay. That leaves the left tackle position open once training camp begins.
Zach Tom has established himself as the team’s right tackle. He has started there the last three full seasons and has been recognized as the team’s best offensive lineman every year according to Pro Football Focus. Tom may be undersized according to most scouts, but he used his intelligence and technique to become an effective offensive tackle.
Unfortunately, Tom struggled through an injury-riddled campaign in 2025. He missed five full games due to injury during the regular season and was limited in several others. He also missed the team’s playoff game against the Bears.
After the season, Tom indicated he had suffered a partially torn patellar tendon in the Packers loss to Denver. He also indicated he is leaning towards having surgery to repair the injury. The expected recovery time from the injury is approximately six months. That means Tom should be ready to return at some point before the regular season starts if his recovery remains on schedule.
If he’s healthy, Tom will return at right tackle. The left tackle position remains open. The favorite entering camp should be 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan. The Packers may have hindered Morgan’s development by cross training him at guard and having him play both the left and right sides of the line. He has played better at tackle than guard in the limited number of games he’s played at the position. This will be his big chance to live up to his draft status and establish himself as the starter. If he wins the left tackle position, he will protect Jordan Love’s blind side.
Meanwhile, depth becomes an issue as well. The Packers selected Anthony Belton in the second round of the 2025 draft. He finished the season as the starting right guard. He remains talented but raw and needs to improve his technique to establish himself as a starting tackle.
Darian Kennard remains the only other experienced backup. He will be a restricted free agent this offseason although it’s quite likely the Packers will bring him back to play a similar role.
The team needs more depth at tackle heading into the offseason. They also need to learn more about Tom’s health and whether Morgan is ready to become a full-time starter. If Tom returns healthy and Morgan proves ready, the Packers will just need more depth at tackle. But if either of them falter, the Packers could find themselves lacking at a premium position entering training camp.
