A recent report indicated that interested teams have learned during the ongoing NFL scouting combine that the Las Vegas Raiders could trade star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby if they receive two first-round draft picks AND a contributing player in return for Crosby's services.
During a Thursday appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show," insider Tom Pelissero of NFL Network suggested that Crosby could have a new football home sooner than some have expected.
"I'm not aware of the Raiders calling anyone," Pelissero explained, per Owen Crisafulli of NESN. "I do believe that they are getting calls, and I do believe there is a possibility of Maxx Crosby being traded sometime between now and the start of the league year."
The upcoming league year opens on March 11, while the legal-tampering portion of free agency gets underway on March 9.
Pelissero pointed out that Crosby has not yet offered a public response to Raiders general manager John Spytek saying this week that he expects Crosby to remain with the club through the entire offseason. Crosby's relationship with the team seemingly changed after he was shut down by the Raiders for the remainder of the 2025 season in late December against his wishes because of a knee injury.
Pelissero was sure to note that "we're not there yet in terms of a deal." Pelissero also mentioned that he believes Spytek and Raiders minority owner Tom Brady don't want to trade Crosby.
Nevertheless, Pelissero seems to believe that the Raiders and Crosby could soon agree that a divorce is what's best for all involved.
"Almost every player in the NFL has a price, even setting aside the frustrations Maxx has had," Pelissero continued. "...He's a [28-year-old] star player who is still at his peak on a Raiders team that's probably going to be challenged over the next one to two years to really be competitive in a tough division. All of that, to me, tracks toward, push this as far as you can, maximize your leverage by saying we're going to keep the guy here. See what type of calls you get."
Crosby's trade value could be bolstered by the fact that he signed a three-year, $106.5M contract extension last offseason. It remains to be seen if a team will match the Raiders' reported asking price for the veteran of seven campaigns before the combine wraps up.
