Tom Brady breaks down brutal Caleb Williams interception in Bears' loss to Packers

Chicago Bears second-year quarterback Caleb Williams had an opportunity to produce what could have gone down as a game-tying or game-winning touchdown late in his team's matchup at the rival Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

However, Williams ultimately tossed a brutal red-zone interception on a ball intended for tight end Cole Kmet on 4th-and-1 with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation. Legendary quarterback Tom Brady was calling the game for Fox and offered his breakdown of what went wrong on Chicago's final offensive play shortly after the Bears fell to 9-4 on the season via a 28-21 defeat.

Tom Brady thinks Caleb Williams made this mistake on interception

"I think they were trying to get someone in the flat," Brady explained, per Fox News Digital. "It was a two-level pattern. Someone in the flat, [Bears running back D'Andre Swift], which [the Packers] took away. So, he's kind of forced to throw to Kmet. He had him early. He just held onto that ball a little long. That gave [Green Bay's Keisean Nixon], who's got a lot of speed, a chance to undercut it. He made a great game-saving play."

Per Dan Wiederer of The Athletic, Bears head coach Ben Johnson said during his postgame comments that he "was hopeful we could get a yard" on the fourth-down play. Meanwhile, Williams acknowledged on Sunday evening that he should've given Kmet "a better shot" at making a catch by leading his teammate with the pass.

Why Tom Brady liked the call despite the Caleb Williams interception

"I did like the call, allowing Caleb to get onto the perimeter and use his legs," Brady added. "He's done such a good job of that all season long — give him a little run-pass option. In the end, Green Bay just made the game-winning play."

The 9-3-1 Packers head into Week 15 sitting atop the NFC North standings above the Bears and the 8-5 Detroit Lions. Green Bay plays at the 11-2 Denver Broncos on Dec. 14, while the Bears will host the 3-10 Cleveland Browns that Sunday. The Bears will then welcome the Packers to Soldier Field for a prime-time showdown on Dec. 20.
