The Arizona Cardinals haven't officially released Kyler Murray yet, but it's just a matter of time.
Otherwise, they'll be on the hook for nearly $20 million in additional salary guarantees.
However, until that happens, the former No. 1 pick won't be free to sign with any other team. That doesn't mean there's not a market brewing for his services, though.
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, money won't be an issue, and he'd love to play for Kevin O'Connell and the Minnesota Vikings.
"What I’ve heard is Murray is locked in on playing at the minimum, and using the circumstance he’s in to make this a football-only decision. My sense is that the Vikings would be his preference, and the Smith trade makes it more likely that Minnesota signs him," Breer reported.
The Cardinals will still pay him in full, so he can take as little money as it takes to get to his preferred destination.
That said, there's also a chance that the Vikings will pivot to a different veteran, which would force Murray to look elsewhere.
"If the Vikings go another way, with someone like Cousins, then I think the idea of being the stopgap in Indianapolis, presuming Daniel Jones re-ups, while Jones is coming back from his torn Achilles would be appealing to him," he added.
All indications are that the Colts want Jones to be their long-term answer at quarterback and will hand him the keys once he's healthy.
The Vikings, on the other hand, will remain active in the veteran quarterback market to add some experience to the room and some competition for J.J. McCarthy after an uneven first season. Perhaps that addition will be Murray.
