The Calgary Flames enter the final stretch before the March 6 trade deadline with the third-worst record in the Western Conference at 23-27-6, with 52 points in 56 games, and 11 points off the second wild-card spot.
With the postseason appearing unlikely, attention will inevitably shift to a potential roster sellout in Calgary that could involve some of their veterans as the organization moves into selling mode.
Center Nazem Kadri’s name has circulated in trade speculation for months, if not years, but nothing ever really materialized. That, however, might be about to change according to TSN reporter Darren Dreger's report from Tuesday.
According to Dreger, Kadri's stance has changed of late, and he “wants to be traded.” Dreger noted that Calgary has already received offers for the veteran center, but is still waiting for a better deal before pulling the trigger.
“Even though Nazem Kadri wants to be traded, and yes, of course, he wants to go to a contending team or at least a playoff team, I think we can appreciate the patient approach here by the Calgary Flames,” Dreger said. “But more and more, it seems likely that Kadri is going to get traded between now and the deadline.”
Dreger explained that significant interest in landing Kadri before the deadline already exists across the league.

“You’re going to see tons of interest, and there has been considerable interest to this stage,” Dreger said. “I believe that there have been offers, trade offers made on Nazem Kadri.”
Dreger believes that Flames general manager Craig Conroy, however, is taking a patient approach to receive as many assets as possible in exchange for trading Kadri away.
“I think Craig Conroy, the general manager of the Calgary Flames, is also looking around the market here,” Dreger said.
Kadri, 35, leads the Flames with 39 points, including 10 goals and 29 assists, in 56 games. He is in the fourth season of a seven-year, $49 million contract carrying a $7 million cap hit and holding a 13-team no-trade list.
The Flames return from the Olympic break with a matchup against the San Jose Sharks scheduled for Thursday. The NHL's trade deadline is set for March 6 at 3 p.m. ET.
