There are just three NHL games tonight, and the clearest path forward has presented itself with a quick look through the matchups. We turn to a pair of road teams to both score at least three goals in what is a relatively straightforward play tonight.
Panthers vs. Penguins, 7:30 p.m., TNT
Florida heads to Pittsburgh tonight, and while the Penguins have been relatively tight to goals scored against them, there's more than enough to suggest the Panthers can find the back of the net.
Florida is averaging 4.4 goals per game on the road over the past 45 days, and their second-ranked power play scoring rate is a big reason why. That should come into play here against Pittsburgh, who own the ninth-worst penalty kill over the last month. I'm expecting a PP goal to help push us to Florida 3+ goals, and the Panthers have scored 3+ in five of the last six against the Penguins.
Wild vs. Coyotes, 9:30 p.m. ET, Scripps, BSWI
As for Minnesota, location averages were the first flag that favored scoring. The Wild are averaging 3.6 goals per game on the road across the past month and a half, and Arizona is handing out 3.9 goals per game at home in the same span.
Minnesota has picked up a pair of nice wins the last few days, beating Vegas 5-3 and Pittsburgh 3-2. Their power play is coming alive to fuel their offensive success, which is nice to see considering no team allows more power play opportunities per game in the last 30 days than Arizona at 4.2. Volume can be king when it comes to a streaking PP unit.
Connor Ingram is in net, and while he did shutout Minnesota a month ago, he was peppered by shots and has since regressed, allowing 17 goals across his past four starts. The Wild have scored 3+ goals in 11 of their last 14 meetings with the Coyotes.
