As the winter transfer window looms, Manchester United fans are keeping a close eye on potential arrivals that could strengthen their squad.

The Premier League giants are coming off a solid run in recent weeks and are looking to maintain momentum while also planning for long-term squad depth.

With Europe’s top clubs constantly on the lookout for experienced shot-stoppers, the timing of January offers a prime opportunity for some high-profile moves.

Clubs like Manchester United have repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to pursue goalkeepers with proven international quality to solidify their defensive setup.

The idea of adding a goalkeeper capable of performing on the world stage has generated considerable intrigue among supporters and pundits alike.

Turning to Barcelona, the club is facing turbulence in goal as Marc-Andre ter Stegen undergoes back surgery, marking his second major operation in consecutive seasons.

While last year it was a knee injury, this season it’s his back that has kept him sidelined, and the German’s time at the Catalan club is increasingly in doubt.

David Ibanez told ElDesmarque: “From what I understand, there are several offers for Ter Stegen,” and added that interest comes from “some from the Premier League.”

Ibanez also noted, “when he recovers, he’ll have to leave Barcelona,” whether on loan or by terminating his contract, emphasising the goalkeeper’s desire for regular playing time.

Ter Stegen’s priority is clear: “Ter Stegen is clear in his mind that he needs to play from January to May if he wants to be at the World Cup defending Germany’s goal,” Ibanez stated.

He is aware that Wojciech Szczesny and Joan Garcia are ahead of him at Barcelona, leaving him with limited opportunities.

Regarding potential destinations, Ibanez confirmed, “Manchester United is one of them,” though he acknowledged that Besiktas currently have the more concrete offer.

“I suppose they’re waiting to see how he recovers, if he gets medical clearance, which, from what I’m told, if everything goes well, he’ll get at the beginning of January,” he added.

Clubs will monitor his recovery carefully, ensuring that any move aligns with fitness levels.

Alongside Manchester United, “there are two or three other Premier League teams interested,” Ibanez said, emphasising that Ter Stegen’s January decision will hinge entirely on his health and readiness to compete.

Manchester United brought in Senne Lammens in the summer window, who has been seen as an upgrade on Andre Onana, and the club could now be monitoring Ter Stegen as a potential world-class option to further bolster their goalkeeping ranks.

After a season disrupted by injury, Marc-Andre ter Stegen could be primed for a Premier League switch, offering United a potential world-class addition between the posts.
