Gary Neville challenges Roy Keane’s stance on Benjamin Sesko debate

Benjamin Sesko’s recent run of form for Manchester United has caught plenty of attention, but Gary Neville and Roy Keane cannot seem to agree on what it all means.

Since Ruben Amorim’s departure, the Slovenian forward has found another gear, delivering consistent performances over a seven-match stretch.

Sesko had managed just two goals in 17 games under Amorim. Since the switch to Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick, he has started to look much more effective in front of goal.

With five goals in his last six appearances – despite starting only two of those matches and playing just 241 minutes – his numbers are hard to ignore. But Keane still is not convinced.

Sesko has given Manchester United a real presence up front lately, especially against sides sitting deep, helping to stretch the pitch and free up space for others.

The recent goal record speaks for itself, but Keane is not convinced. Meanwhile, Neville believes he deserves more credit.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Keane questioned why there was so much excitement around his performance.

“Nice finish, but sorry, but is that what he’s supposed to do if you know what I mean? coming off the bench, they’re chasing the game, and they score a goal, and everyone’s United expectation. You’re like RyanAir,” the Irishman said.

“If a flight’s on time, everyone’s laughing and joking. But usually, you’re going to be two hours late, and then every time, everyone thinks that’s the norm.

“Then you land, and they play the music, like we’ve landed on time, it’s Sesko and United, that’s what you’re supposed to do.”

Neville then replied: “Roy, I’m going to object to that a bit.

“Sesko, that goal he scored last night wasn’t ordinary, and we all watch a lot of football matches.

“I would see that goal scored one in 25 from that position ahead of the near post. I wouldn’t see that chance taken very often. It’d either be saved or he’d miss past the near post.

“It was an exceptional goal.”

Manchester United are seeing a different side to Benjamin Sesko

Neville and Keane both made valid points about Sesko, even if they did not see things the same way.

Keane’s view is that scoring goals is simply what Sesko should be doing, but the recent numbers back up that expectation. The Slovenian has been more consistent in front of goal lately.

The change has been noticeable. Early on, he struggled to find the net regularly, but his form has picked up recently and he is starting to deliver what United need from a forward.

With a goal every 48 minutes in recent appearances, he is in impressive form. It looks like United may have finally found the striker they have been missing in recent seasons.

Sesko is increasingly demonstrating why he was viewed as one of the world’s most promising striker talents, continually improving, though he still has progress to make to reach the level of a top-tier striker.
