Credit where its due, Tottenham have done a great job in recent season when it comes to signing young talents and developing them. The Lilywhites topped the Premier League charts last season for most minutes given to teenagers. This should not come as a surprise as the North London club has made it clear time and again that they are building a team for the future.
One of the few positive takeouts from last season was that the youngsters took their chances and made a mark at N17 by performing well when it mattered. The most prominent name that comes to mind is Lucas Bergvall. The Sweden international looked to be in great touch last season, and it is fair to say that the 19-year-old became a crucial part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans in his first full season with the club.
This just shows that the Lilywhites are willing to give young talents a chance to showcase their potential on the biggest stages. Spurs have rarely missed a trick when it comes to developing young talents at N17 in recent years. The world-class training facilities, the chance to play regularly for the first-team, and the state-of-the-art home stadium all give these young talents a chance to reach their true potential at Hotspur Way.
Tottenham are about to add another youngster to their ranks in the coming days. The Lilywhites have announced the arrival of Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale after the club agreed a J-League record fee (£5m) for the Japanese defender. The 20-year-old has great potential, and it is clear to see that Spurs have liked what they have seen as they finalise a deal to sign the talented defender.
Now, Bryan King has given his verdict on how Spurs will look to bring out the best out of Kota Takai. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,
“I’d imagine everything has been agreed. Tottenham are paying £5m, which is a sensible fee for a young player. This will be a good addition to the squad, but perhaps he will be going out on loan.”

The ex-scout added,
“This is a good young player to have in the squad, but he needs experience, and if he’s not going to get regular games with the first team, they need to maybe look at loaning him out. Once landing on Monday (7 July), he’ll be headed to Tottenham for his medical, and if the medical is clear, the deal will be done.”
Bryan King has suggested that Tottenham will make a decision on Kota Takai‘s future this week. The ex-scout believes that the Lilywhites have paid a sensible fee for the defender, and he will be a good addition to the squad. However, King also believes that the 20-year-old will go out on loan as he needs experience and regular game-time before featuring regularly for Spurs.
The North London club clearly has enough depth in the centre-back position for next season. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are clearly the first-choice centre-backs, with Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin waiting in the wings to cover them. Not only that, but Spurs also have Luka Vuskovic and Ashley Phillips in their ranks if the club suffers an injury crisis next season.
