Speculation over a Mauricio Pochettino Tottenham return was fuelled following his latest appearance on the High Performance Podcast.

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled under Thomas Frank, with the under-pressure manager’s relationship with supporters rapidly deteriorating. Pochettino’s recent comments have inevitably reignited discussion over a potential reunion.

His contract with the United States national team expires after the World Cup, potentially opening a window for movement next summer.

Could a Mauricio Pochettino Tottenham Return Happen?

Does He Want a Reunion?

When asked what club holds the most special place in his heart, he replied: “It’s very simple… Tottenham.”

The Argentine has consistently hinted at unfinished business in north London, even captioning a recent Instagram post alongside club legend Ossie Ardiles with “COYS!”

The feeling appears mutual. As frustrations around Frank have grown, chants of Pochettino’s name have resurfaced inside the stadium. Addressing that connection, he said: “Still, the people on the street, the fans of Tottenham, really show the love and the appreciation and I think that is why it’s so special.”

The emotional bond between manager and club remains evident.

Why the Return Makes Sense

Tottenham’s trajectory since his departure has been inconsistent. Two title challenges and a Champions League final appearance have been followed by managerial turnover and declining league finishes.

Spurs now sit 15th place, and Pochettino recently reiterated his ambition for the team: “It’s a club that should be – trying to believe that you can win the Champions League and also fighting for the Premier League.”

His first spell was defined by youth development – Harry Kane, Dele Alli and several academy graduates flourished under his guidance. With Tottenham currently assembling another group of promising young players, a similar developmental approach could be appealing.

Reasons Tottenham May Be Hesitant

A reunion does carry risk, however. Pochettino’s managerial reputation has fluctuated since 2019. Mixed spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, combined with inconsistent results with the United States, have raised questions.

Tottenham’s decline also began during his final months in charge, with just 25 points collected from his last 24 matches. The hierarchy must determine which version of Pochettino would return — the architect of an 86-point campaign in 2016/17, or the coach who struggled to sustain momentum in recent roles.

Would a Second Spell Work?

While second spells are not a guarantee of success in football, Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid provide encouraging examples.

A Pochettino Tottenham return would likely unite the fanbase during a turbulent period. Whether the board decides to revisit a previous chapter remains to be seen. But his latest comments confirm that there is a genuine possibility.
