Tottenham Hotspur star Dejan Kulusevski is not expected to return to action until December

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a big injury blow in the form of Dominic Solanke earlier this week.

The centre-forward missed the Bournemouth defeat last weekend with a minor ankle issue, but the injury seems to be more severe than the early prognosis. The England international is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines and could be forced to undergo ankle surgery. Dominic Solanke has now joined both creative midfielders James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski on the sidelines for long term.

James Maddison will miss the majority of the campaign after sustaining a torn ACL in the pre-season friendly against Newcastle United. This has perhaps shattered his dreams of featuring at the World Cup next summer.

Meanwhile, Dejan Kulusevski has been missing from Spurs’ squad since May. The creative midfielder suffered a knee injury in the 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace, after only returning from foot problem that sidelined him for a month. This forced him to undergo knee surgery in May and he subsequently missed the UEFA Europa League final win over Manchester United in Bilbao.

Journalist says Dejan Kulusevski’s return from injury is not imminent

Now, reputable Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has provided an update on Dejan Kulusevski. The latest update on the Sweden international’s return from injury is not exactly positive.

Kulusevski remains ‘months’ away from making his injury return. Alasdair Gold says the 25-year-old is currently still in rehab after patella surgery and is not expected back until December, except for a quicker-than-expected recovery.

This update on the creative midfielder from Gold will not go down well within the Tottenham fanbase as Kulusevski was undoubtedly the team’s best player during the first half of the 2024/25 campaign. The Stockholm-born talent looked transformed as a player when former boss Ange Postecoglou moved him into central midfield, allowing to influence games more than he did from the right wing. He ended up registering 10 goals and 11 assists in 50 appearances for the Lilywhites last season, adding much-needed productivity to his game for which he was previously criticised a lot.

Kulusevski joins Sweden squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers

Tottenham fans would have been scratching their heads when it emerged that Kulusevski was joining the Sweden camp in this international break. Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson confirmed on Monday that the Spurs star asked to be a part of the squad that will face Slovenia and Kosovo in the World Cup qualifiers.

If not available on the pitch, the 25-year-old wants to support his national teammates with his presence and leadership skills off it. This further demonstrates the Scandinavian star’s leadership skills. Hopefully, we get to see Kulusevski back in action as quickly as possible as he is an extremely crucial player for both Sweden and Tottenham.
