A potential top-two showdown for the Indian Wells title is on the line, but both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner face tricky semifinal matches. Who will advance to the final?
Head-to-head: Sinner 6-4 Zverev
Jannik Sinner made short work of NextGen champion Learner Tien and ensured he will headline the Indian Wells semifinals for the third year running. In their second meeting since last year’s Beijing final, the result remained unchanged as Sinner cruised past the American in just 66 minutes.
Earlier in the tournament, Alexander Zverev became the first player to tally 100 hard-court wins at the Masters level this decade. And thanks to a dominant straight-sets win over Arthur Fils, the German joined a very distinguished list of reaching the semifinals at all nine Masters tournaments.
Since the series was incepted in 1990, only the Big Four have accomplished that spectacular feat. This is a testament to Zverev’s consistency at the highest level. But it will be a tall order to make it past Sinner in this match. The deeper the Italian goes in the draw, the more comfortable he’s beginning to look. And if Sinner keeps that aggressive court position and strikes first, he should have a clear edge.
Prediction: Sinner in 2
Head-to-head: Alcaraz 6-2 Medvedev
Daniil Medvedev ended Jack Draper’s reign as Indian Wells champion with a 6-1 7-5 victory. He extends his win streak to eight matches. Since losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in Rotterdam, Medvedev has won all 16 sets he has contested. In that time, he lifted his 23rd career title in Dubai and marched to the Indian Wells semifiinals for the fourth consecutive season. Carlos Alcaraz, for his part, beat Cameron Norrie in straight sets in the battle of former champions. He is a perfect 16-0 in 2026 and is gunning for his third title this season.
Medvedev thrives in structured rallies, but he doesn’t have that luxury of playing defense in his most natural position against Alcaraz. His defensive skills will be tested more than usual, and in this case, Alcaraz will constantly disrupt his rhythm.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 3
