The WNBA has experienced tremendous growth in popularity over the last two seasons. Caitlin Clark’s arrival has been one of the biggest reasons for this.
The Indiana Fever drafted the Iowa product at No. 1 in 2024, and she has since attracted massive viewership to the league. She continues to draw fans to arenas or watch games live on TV. Clark’s combination of skills and charm on the court captivates many, and her activities off of it engage numerous fans.
Indiana reached the second round of the playoffs last season despite its superstar dealing with injuries. Fans continued to watch the team compete with Clark on the bench. The Fever aim to have a deeper run this year or potentially contend for the title.
WNBA Communications announced on Tuesday that Indiana’s season opener was the second-most-watched regular-season game ever across ESPN networks. The Fever’s matchup against the Dallas Wings drew an average of 2.5 million viewers.

Clark may have been the main draw of the record-breaking matchup, but Paige Bueckers played her part, too. Clark and Bueckers have one of the biggest rivalries in the WNBA today, and fans clearly tuned in for the latest edition of their on-court battle.
Clark suited up for the first time since July 15. Fans awaited her return as she played only 13 games last season. The 6-foot guard sustained quad, ankle and groin injuries, and team doctors ruled her out for the remainder of the 2025 campaign.
However, things didn’t go as planned for Clark and company, as they lost 107-104 . The team struggled to contain Arike Ogunbowale, Odyssey Sims and Bueckers, who combined for 62 points and six three-pointers. Clark posted 20 points, five rebounds and seven assists but was 7-for-18 from the field.
With several marquee matchups left on their schedule, they could break the viewership record again. Clark will also aim to bounce back this season and lead her team to more success.
