Green Bay Packers fans sounded the alarms when Josh Jacobs was tangled up in a scandal off the field.
The star running back was arrested on five charges stemming from a domestic dispute. He was ultimately released and no charges have been filed, but there remains an open investigation. Jacobs and his legal team have denied the allegations and "remain confident" that the evidence will show that no charges should be brought.
Jacobs has been with the team since his release, and he's reportedly been very active as a leader during minicamp.
When asked about that, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur had nothing but praise for his veteran running back.
“It’s been great to have him around, he shows up every day with the same attitude and same mentality and I would expect nothing other than that,” LaFleur said, via Cameron Ezeir of WFRV Sports.
Jacobs is a free man, and he should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
Then again, this is an ongoing situation, so there's still no certainty about whether he'll ultimately have to miss time this season. He could also be subject to the league's personal conduct policy regardless of the result of his legal proceedings.
Any missed time from Jacobs would be a significant blow to LaFleur's balanced offense, as the running back is coming off a season in which he rushed for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns.
The Packers lack depth at running back. They let Emanuel Wilson walk in free agency, and primary backup MarShawn Lloyd, has struggled with injuries since he entered the league.
Still, in the meantime, it'll just have to be business as usual in Wisconsin, with the Packers only hoping their star running back will be available when games start to count.
